Yet Another War

Materials: A speaker & two different types of tokens (10 for each player)

This game is about THE WAR. Both the real one and the imagined one by H.G. Wells. You don't need to know about either to play.

You are five socialite women in New York City, New York, listening to a portion of the War of the Worlds broadcast. You must decide what to do in the face of an impending alien invasion.

This game deals directly with the strange, sad intersection of Hope and Fear. Of anxiety and community, of falling apart while needing to keep it together. Safety should be a top priority. Before running this game, make sure you go over the C.A.T.S.:

• Content: This is a game where you listen to The War of the Worlds broadcast as High Society ladies. You missed the part of the broadcast where they tell you it’s fiction. You must mentally prepare for an alien invasion, and decide if you’re Hopeful or Afraid, by the end of it. You will answer a series of prompts during the broadcast and talk as a group.

• Aim: This game is meant to be a feelings-fest, a game where you talk about your feelings for 60-ish minutes in character. You’ll be asked to embody your characters physically and emotionally. Remember to take care of yourself. No one wins. No one loses.

• Tone: This game is serious. It might have some absurd moments. Then again, THE WAR is absurd. Alien Invasion is absurd. But your ladies take it all seriously.

• Subject Matter: This game talks about THE WAR. The one involving Germany. The second one. It also talks about an Alien Invasion. Finally, it talks about THE DEPRESSION. And all the poor people that come along with it. Discuss if there are any topics that might be off limits.
